Tottenham Hotspur could move for Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey next summer
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Brighton and Hove Albion right-back Tariq Lamptey as a potential target in the summer transfer window. He is one of the highly-rated youngsters in the Premier League at this instant and could become a dependable player in the future.
Spurs require additions in the right-wingback position and Lamptey would be a wonderful signing indeed. After all, Antonio Conte wanted someone in that position last month, but the club could not bring in a suitable option.
Adama Traore was an option in that role, but Barcelona beat Tottenham to his services, dealing a blow to Conte in the process. The English club failed to address those demands in the January transfer window and it would not be too much of a reach to say that they have plans to rectify it next summer.
A man in demand
Matt Doherty has failed to meet expectations since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, whereas Emerson Royal still has a long way to go to prove his worth in the attacking department. As such, the need for a new right-back has increased, which could probably have resulted in the manager’s demands.
The 21-year-old is tied down at Brighton and Hove Albion until 2025, so it would not be an easy task to prise him away from the Amex. He is a key player for Graham Potter in an exciting Seagulls side and has proven his worth in the top flight.
The Englishman would naturally attract competition from others because of his growing presence in the league. It is reasonable to think that Spurs will not have it easy in their pursuit of the youngster.
Even if we register our interest next summer, Fabio Paratici and co must be quick with their attempt to sign the Seagulls star. We lost out on Traore and Luis Diaz to other clubs who acted decisively. We cannot afford to lose out on more targets if there are ambitions of competing at the top under the Italian coach.
