Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil joins Valencia on loan for the season
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur starlet Bryan Gil has joined Valencia in a loan move on deadline day of the January window. The youngster moved to London last summer but was unable to replicate the promise he showed in Spain.
There is no buy option included in the agreement between the two clubs over Gil’s loan move. Moreover, the La Liga side does not hold any clause to extend the length of the deal as well. He will rejoin Tottenham when his time at Mestalla Stadium ends in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old was brought in from Sevilla last summer for £21million after Erik Lamela went the other way in a cash-plus swap deal. But it has been evident that Gil isn’t quite ready for regular PL football, and hence, this move comes at the right time for him.
Hoping for the best
The Spaniard still has a long way to go in his playing career, and it would be foolish to label him a flop at this stage. He was still in the process of adapting to the new league, plus the presence of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura, and Steven Bergwijn has reduced his chances of getting significant minutes.
And so, a loan move back to Spain could do wonders for him. Even when Son was out injured in recent weeks, he did not start in the Premier League and Bergwijn took over the reins when needed.
Regular minutes are important for a young player in his growth, so this would be in our best interest as well. Playing in the top flight of Spain is certainly a massive step up rather than gaining minutes for our development team.
The addition of Dejan Kulusevski to our squad means that the Dutchman can be moved to the left wing to compensate for the youngster’s departure. Even if the latter did not perform to a great extent at N17, we should not forget the quality that earned him his national team call-up for the Olympics last year.

The Spanish winger excelled under the tenure of Luis Enrique, so the availability of regular minutes could earn him a spot ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup. That would be good for us since more challenges would undoubtedly shape him to reach the potential he has shown to be in his bag.
For now, the 20-year-old must focus on doing his best at the Mestalla and return an improved player, ready to challenge our first-team players for a spot in Conte’s starting XI. It is an important spell for Gil and hopefully, he passes this phase with flying colours.
