Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could make an offer for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the coming summer transfer window
According to Football Insider (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur are thinking of making an increased bid of £70million for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen
The 23-year-old forward is proving to be a valuable asset for Napoli. The youngster has already scored nine goals and provided 2 assists in 16 matches across all competitions for the Partenopei this season. It is understood that the Italian club rejected an offer from Spurs in the last transfer window.
That being said, the Lilywhites could be looking to make a stronger bid in an attempt to lure the Nigerian away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Napoli signed Osimhen in 2020 from LOSC Lille for a fee of £30million but Spurs are now planning on offering more than double that amount in the summer.
The youngster has quickly adapted to his new home and is putting up some great displays in Serie A. Newcastle United were also interested in purchasing the striker but he still remains at the Gli Azzurri for the time being.
What can Victor Osimhen bring to Tottenham Hotspur?
The 23-year-old has become a key part of this Napoli attack in a short span of time. He has already played 46 matches across all competitions for the Italian side during which he has scored 19 goals and provided five assists.
Osimhen has grown in stature and is proving to be a dependable asset for Luciano Spalletti’s team. A strong presence on and off the ball in attack, he can add some extra venom to our attack.
Harry Kane has been a long-standing servant of the club but has rarely had a backup that can give him competition for starts. With that in mind, the 29-year-old has struggled to maintain his consistency this season, having scored only five goals and providing two assists across 20 Premier League games this season.
Perhaps, the England captain can use some competition for starts at Spurs or a worthy backup who can step in for him if and when required. Not to mention, Osimhen can also be deployed as a centre-forward along with Kane, forming what could be a deadly duo up front.
While Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura are great attacking options, the Lilywhites lack a like-for-like replacement for Kane. Osimhen could not only deputize in the absence of the English striker but also stiffen up competition for that position considering his recent form.

The 52-year-old manager has always adhered to a fluid attacking style of football that demands a lot from his players. At the age of 23, Osimhen could prove to be a smart long-term investment for the North London club and a suitable successor to Kane if everything falls in place.
That being said, only time will tell if we put in a big bid for the striker and if the Italian club and the player agree on a move. The need to sign Osimhen could also be increased if Kane departs the club at the end of this season.
