Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane shares his thoughts on the best player he has been pitted against in the Premier League
In an interview with Amazon Prime Video Sport’s Q&A series (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur player Harry Kane revealed that Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk is one of the best defenders he has come up against in the Premier League
Kane has been an instrumental part of Tottenham Hotspur over the years. He has led from the front, redeveloping into one of the finest forwards in the world. A prolific goalscorer, he is ruthlessly efficient when it comes to finding the back of the net.
In the conversation, Kane spoke about a wide range of topics and also showered praise on rival defender Virgil van Djik when asked about the best defender he has faced in the Premier League:
“Oh, good question- obviously, [Virgil] Van Dijk is a fantastic defender. He’s been consistent now for Liverpool over many years and he won the Premier League and won the Champions League. So, he’s a tough defender and he’s doing great this year after his injury last year.”
A difficult year
The English international has had a turbulent year with the Lilywhites so far this season. There has also been a level of uncertainty regarding his long-term future at the club amidst interest from Manchester City.
The English captain is yet to start firing on all cylinders and has recorded just five goals in 19 Premier League games this season. In the interview, Kane also emphasised how Antonio Conte has brought a good culture to the team.
The 28-year-old has had a lean patch recently, and the managerial changes in the last few years haven’t helped the situation. Antonio Conte has an impressive resume and has won titles across Europe. Hopefully, he is the man to end Kane’s long wait for a trophy at Spurs.
The Italian helped Inter Milan lift the Serie A title after 11 years, ending the domination of Juventus in the Italian top flight. He also played a key role in bringing out the best from several players during his time at the top clubs, and the fans would be hoping that he can rekindle some of that magic at the Lane.
Son Heung Min has also returned from injury along with Cristian Romero. The double boost could help the Italian manager shore up things at the back along with adding that extra zeal to the attacking side of their game.
The North London club could look to strengthen their squad in the striker’s position. According to Football Insider (h/t The Sun), the Lilywhites could be looking to make a bid in the region of £70million for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window. This is testimony to the fact that Spurs are seriously considering adding another attacker to N-17.

That being said, Tottenham and Conte will have to do the best they can with this current group of players. The fans would also be hoping that Harry Kane will be able to rediscover the form that saw him terrorise defenders for so many seasons and help the club deliver more attacking performances on a consistent basis.
