Tottenham Hotspur newbie Dejan Kulusevski issues verdict on forward Harry Kane
According to the Telegraph (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur new boy Dejan Kulusevski has spoken of his delight about playing alongside Harry Kane, praising the Englishman for his ability on the pitch.
Kulusevski made his debut in Spurs’ 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup. He came off the bench in the second half to get his first taste of what the English game has in store.
The Swede spoke about his time at Juventus under Andrea Pirlo, claiming how some of the tips he learnt from the Italy legend could help him work well with Kane in this Spurs side.
“Pirlo is a fantastic coach and a fantastic guy. He spoke a lot about how I should shape my body and look for passes without showing the opposition where I am going to play the ball. That is exactly what I hope will help me to help Harry even more in the future.”
Kulusevski moved from Juventus to Tottenham on a loan deal on the deadline day of the winter transfer window, signing a deal with Spurs to keep him in London till the end of the 2022/23 season.
Partnership with Kane
The former Juve man nearly picked up an assist on his debut, feeding in new teammate Steven Bergwijn, but the Dutchman fired well over the bar. The game, however, belonged to Kane, who bagged a brace in front of the home fans and looked to be back to his best after a tough start to the season.
Kulusevski was full of praise for the England skipper, showering compliments about the striker’s technique and vision. The Sweden international said he believed Kane would always be able to pick out a pass to find him in space with his superior technique.
“What impressed me was his technique, the way he stops the ball and the way he changes the whole pitch with his passes. It is amazing, really. I know that when he has the ball, I have to run because he will find me.”
The game was a great start to life at N17 for Kulusevski, who moved to Tottenham along with Juventus teammate Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan secured a permanent move to Spurs, unlike Kulusevski, and also made his first appearance for his new club in the FA Cup
The pair performed admirably on their first introduction to the physical and fast-paced nature of the English top-flight, going up against a formidable Premier League foe in Brighton. The Seagulls themselves are riding high in the league this season, putting up remarkable performances and punching above their weight.
