Graham Potter hands Tottenham Hotspur a transfer boost in Yves Bissouma pursuit
As per the Express, Tottenham Hotspur have been given a huge boost over their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion ace Yves Bissouma after Seagulls manager Graham Potter admitted that the club is not completely opposed to a sale for their star midfielder.
Brighton have been at their brilliant best this season, with Potter inspiring the Seagulls to punch above their weight, which has seen them spend a majority of the season in the top half of the Premier League.
A big factor for their impressive performances in this campaign has been Bissouma, who Potter believes is one of the best players in his ranks, saying that it is important for the club to keep him beyond the current season.
“He is an important player for us and it looks like he is enjoying his football with us. Absolutely (it is important to keep Bissouma). I have spoken about this a lot and there is always speculation.”
The Mali international has done a fabulous job of shielding his team’s defence and ensuring they don’t concede too many goals, while at the same time capable of driving forward with the ball and supporting the attack.
Bissouma for right price
This is not the first time Spurs have been linked to Bissouma, with the Lilywhites previously registering an interest in the midfielder. For the right price, a deal could be done for the midfield star.
Though the 25-year-old is an integral part of this Brighton side, Potter admitted that parting with their players can help Brighton improve as a club, despite believing that the Seagulls are strong enough to hold on to their stars.
“As a club we are quite strong we don’t have to sell anybody but we also know selling players helps us improve as a club. Yves has his and he has that ability to drive away from people. That makes him the player he is. As a coach you can’t expect to have 11 Bissoumas.”
Spurs recently faced off against Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, with the north London club running out comfortable winners as the Seagulls were downed 3-1. The win saw the Lilywhites progress to the later stages of the cup competition, as manager Antonio Conte eyes his first trophy in charge of the club.
Despite their loss, Bissouma managed to catch everyone’s eye, putting in an impressive shift in the middle of the park and was easily Brighton’s best player on the pitch. He capped off his fine display with a goal to the name, staining Tottenham’s attempt at keeping a clean sheet.

Spurs recently bolstered their midfield by signing Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus. The Uruguayan plays a role very similar to that of Bissouma, and Conte will be pleased with the club’s January transfer business.
However, Conte is aiming to turn the side into world beaters during his tenure at Tottenham and he knows that he needs more quality players in his squad. The Italian will need more midfield reinforcements in the coming months, and Bissouma is an ideal candidate for the Spurs boss to consider.
