Tottenham Hotspur could be without three first-team players for Southampton clash
As per Hampshire Live, Tottenham Hotspur could go into their midweek Premier League clash against Southampton without three first-team stars in their ranks.
The Saints will be travelling to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday to take on a Spurs side that is coming off an impressive 3-1 win against Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Southampton themselves are heading to north London after a 2-1 victory over Coventry City in the FA Cup, grinding out a win in extra-time over the Championship side. However, the Saints are likely to be without a few players themselves.
Young sensation Armando Broja is doubtful for the Spurs clash due to a knee issue. Tino Livramento, another of Southampton’s young aces, is likely to be rested following his extended cup appearance against Coventry City.
Spurs injury issues
Tottenham may have welcomed back Cristian Romero to action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines in their FA Cup game last weekend, but could be without three other first-team stars when the Saints roll into town for the PL clash.
Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga remain doubts for the midweek game whereas Eric Dier is also expected to be ruled out, despite claims of the player close to a return after overcoming his thigh injury.
Manager Antonio Conte will now have to deal with this minor defensive crisis as both Tanganga and Dier are likely to be ruled out of action for the next game. Romero’s return proves to be a blessing for the Italian at a time like this.
Skipp was a regular fixture under Conte this season, with the academy star proving to be ahead of many first-team midfield stars in the pecking order at the club. In his place, we could likely see January signing Rodrigo Bentancur, operating in the defensive midfielder role alongside Skipp’s regular partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Wednesday’s clash against Southampton will prove to be a crucial game for Conte’s men, as they look to climb up the Premier League table and claim a Champions League spot for next season. Playing at home, Spurs will be favourites to win, which may put added pressure on the side to perform.
Injury concerns have not come at a good time for the Lilywhites, with multiple games coming thick and fast this month. Conte will need all his players available for selection during this period, as they also look to win their two games in hand and consolidate their position in the top four spots.
