Fabrizio Romano: Champions League football key for Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to stay at the club
According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane would be willing to stay at the club beyond the end of the season if Spurs can manage to secure Champions League football next term.
Last summer saw Kane embroiled in a long-drawn-out transfer saga after the Englishman spoke of his desire to leave Spurs in favour of Premier League rivals Manchester City. However, the striker stayed put in north London after the move broke down in the end.
As we approach a new summer in a few more months, Romano reveals that Kane now feels different and is ‘more than happy’ under the tutelage of manager Antonio Conte. This augurs well for the club ahead of what could be a massive summer transfer window.
The journalist went on to add that although the player is happy at Spurs at the moment, there has been no final decision made on his future as of yet. Tottenham fans, however, will be eager to hear the forward commit himself to the club so they don’t lose their best player anytime soon.
Champions League key for Kane stay
It is claimed that Champions League football is a key consideration for Kane to stay with Spurs, and Conte will be mindful of the same. Tottenham seems to have a good chance of securing a UCL spot for themselves at the end of the season, with the club only two points adrift off fourth place.
Moreover, the club also have two games in hand over the teams around them. As things stand, if Tottenham wins both their remaining games, then they would sit in the table with 42 points – above fourth-placed Manchester United, and within touch of third-placed Chelsea.
Spurs are keen for Kane to stay with them next season, but Romano claims that a new contract for their talisman will not be discussed at the moment. It remains to be seen whether the club will try in the summer to convince their star striker to commit his future to the north London side’s cause.
Kane is yet to win a major team honour in his senior career, coming close to winning Euro 2020 with England and the Champions League with Spurs in 2019. Despite winning multiple accolades on a personal level for his goal-scoring abilities, the striker is keen on winning a trophy at the club level.

Every player dreams of playing in the world’s best competitions and winning the world’s most coveted trophies, and Kane is no different. His prior failed move to Manchester City was an indication of just that, with the striker wanting to move to a club that guarantees silverware almost every season.
With the lure of Champions League important for Kane to stay with Spurs, Conte may have added pressure from the club to secure a top-four finish at the end of the season, so they do not risk their best player leaving in the summer. It will certainly be an interesting race till the summer for UCL spots in the league.
