Tottenham Hotspur sent transfer message regarding Sven Botman and AC Milan
According to Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello via Twitter (h/t Express), Nikkie Bruinenberg, the agent of Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Sven Botman was recently seen at the San Siro, watching AC Milan play.
LOSC Lille’s Botman is hot property in the transfer market, being linked to several top clubs in January after having helped his club to the Ligue 1 title last season. The Dutchman was an integral part of the Les Dogues defence as they ended Paris Saint-Germain’s title spree in fine fashion the previous campaign.
Now, it seems that Tottenham – who were also linked to the player in the winter transfer window – could be set to lose out on the player in the summer after his agent was spotted in Italy watching AC Milan play Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
The Rossoneri enjoyed a fine game against rivals Lazio, winning 4-0 on the night as they gave Bruinenberg a wonderful attacking display to witness. The sighting of Botman’s agent will only have sent the rumour mill into overdrive about a possible move for the Dutch player to Italy.
Defensive upgrade
Tottenham meanwhile will be yearning for a defensive signing in the summer after the club slipped to a 3-2 defeat against Southampton in the Premier League, failing to keep hold of a lead, twice.
What will concern manager Antonio Conte is the way his side lost their grip in the game, conceding two goals in as many minutes as Saints claimed a victory in the last ten minutes of the game.
Tottenham’s game management and defensive display were flawed last night against the Saints, with his rearguard looking shaky at times. The fact that his defenders lost out to two aerial attempts from wide crosses will infuriate Conte, given that it is what is considered basic defending in the top-flight.
Having a presence like Botman in the team is sure to assure the Italian, with the young defender already showing maturity and defensive ability way beyond his years. A league title winner, the Lilywhites could definitely benefit from the Dutchman’s potential move to north London.

If Spurs decide to pursue the defender in the summer, then the club are expected to face competition from not only AC Milan, but also newly-rich Newcastle United, who will be keen to flex their financial muscles and snap up Botman at the end of the season.
It may be safe to say that the Magpies’ approach for the player will depend on whether they survive relegation this season. But Botman’s agent’s sighting at the AC Milan game is not good news for Spurs, as Bruinenberg would have had the opportunity to speak with the club’s management staff, given that club directors Paulo Maldini and Massara were also present.
