Tottenham Hotspur target Mamadou Coulibaly and Djed Spence heading into the summer transfer window
According to Daily Mail, Fabio Paratici and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in securing the services of Monaco starlet Mamadou Coulibaly and Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence to bolster their ranks in the summer.
Spurs had a tough January transfer window after not being able to land several of their top targets. The situation was salvaged to an extent thanks to the deadline day double deal for Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bencantur.
Despite the injection of fresh blood, there is still a long way to go if the Lilywhites are to create a squad that could consistently compete at the highest levels both in England and Europe. Paratici has been recruited for his expertise in being able to lure young talented players for a cut-price or on a Bosman transfer in the past.
The 49-year-old Italian director of football was quite adept and renowned for doing that with the Bianconeri who were his former employers. Any great squad needs a perfect blend of experience and young talent that can help create a solid foundation for the years to come.
With a view to the future, Spurs seem to be monitoring the situation of a 17-year-old Coulibaly as well as that of the 21-year-old Spence. The North London club saw quite a few players leave the club in January, many on loan deals. This could leave space for the Lilywhites to add new reinforcements to their squad.
What can the youngsters bring to N-17?
Djed Spence has proven to be an adept wing-back but putting him into the first-team action directly could be a scary and daunting task. Whilst Spurs still have him on the radar it seems unlikely that Spurs may be able to pull out a deal for him.
The Ligue 1 starlet on the other hand has a bunch of suitors lining up for him despite not making a single start in the senior squad for The Monégasques. The teenager will be out of contract at the end of the season with the French club. The 17-year-old is attracting interest from top clubs which could be an enticing opportunity for any budding professional footballer.
The former Juventus director of football could use this as a great opportunity to lure a potentially talented youngster. It could help save the club huge sums of cash in the long run by developing the player through the ranks and grooming him for their needs accordingly.
That being said, it is always a fine line when it comes to budding young talents. One has to suitably navigate their path ahead giving them just the right amount of exposure and confidence along the way.

The club may have struggled to lure some of the top players but a strategy aimed towards recruiting young players and helping mould them to your club culture seems like a step in the right direction. Only time can tell if Coulibaly or Spence make their way to N-17, but the acquisition of such young prospects could be much easier and financially viable as compared to signing already established stars.
