Barcelona are in a strong position to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Franck Kessie
According to Marca (h/t The Sun), Barcelona are ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the pursuit of AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie. The Ivory Coast midfielder is seen as a replacement for the ageing Sergio Busquets at Camp Nou.
At the moment it is being claimed that Kessie favours a move to the Catalan giants as opposed to the Premier League. The 25-year-old has attracted a lot of interest recently due to the fact that his current contract at San Siro expires at the end of the season.
Apart from providing defensive solidity in midfield, the Ivorian also offers a lot going forward. Kessie has already scored six goals and provided one assist in 23 matches across all competitions for the Rossoneri this season.
Spurs managed to bring in Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on January deadline day. They also managed to lure Dejan Kulusevski who can play as a midfielder as well as a winger. Despite these moves, the North London club still have much to do in the coming windows.
What could Franck Kessie bring to Tottenham Hotspur?
The Lilywhites have been linked with the AC Milan midfielder for some time now. He has become an integral cog in midfield for the Italian club and also played an instrumental part last season which saw Milan finish second in Serie A.
Tottenham Hotspur saw many players depart the club in January and a reshuffle could well be on the cards. Fabio Parartici has a great network in Serie A and could look to tap into it to bring even more exciting prospects to N-17.
At 25, Kessie still has a lot to give in terms of his football career and could be a great long-term asset to the club. He has shown on numerous occasions that he has the ability to carry the ball and take it forward while also providing solid defensive cover to the team.
Franck Kessie’s exploits have seen many suitors line up for his services. Barca are currently going through a rebuild of their own and manager Xavi Hernandez seems to have an exciting project going on at Camp Nou. This could be a tempting proposition for the young midfielder.
Whilst Antonio Conte seems to be pushing the club in a better direction there are still a lot of things to be sorted out before Spurs can compete at the highest level consistently. A player like Kessie would have certainly helped add more depth to the midfield at N-17.
