Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte gave his verdict after the loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers
In an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte spoke about his side’s frustrating loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers in their latest Premier League fixture.
It was the same old story as Spurs faced another humiliating defeat, this time to fellow top-four contenders, Wolves. The visitors were already 2-0 up by the 20th minute of the game courtesy of some clinical finishes from Raul Jimenez and Leander Dendoncker.
The Italian manager was a frustrated figure on the sidelines as his team looked second best in the starting phases of the game. In an attempt to soften the blow, the former Inter Milan manager made a substitution in the first half which saw him sacrifice Ryan Sessegnon and shift to a back four as a tactical tweak.
In his post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t Express), Conte shared his frustration with the way his team started the game. He also highlighted that there is a lot of work to be done as the Lilywhites slumped to another humiliating defeat to the Wanderers:
“It is very difficult today, at the end it was one of the best games we played, we created many chances to score and we had the possession. But for sure it is very difficult to explain the way we started – I think the two goals are very difficult to comment.”
With the honeymoon phase now behind them, the Lilywhites have realised that there is still a long way to go if they are to compete at the highest levels in England and Europe once again.
Another day and another frustrating result for Tottenham Hotspur
Another loss sees Spurs’ hopes for a top-four finish become tougher with their current run of form. Davinson Sanchez looked shaky from the very beginning and a usually dependable Hugo Lloris was also prone to a few hiccups in the early stages of the game.
The visitors took advantage of their slow start and nicked in two goals early on before Spurs could even find their feet. There seemed to be only one winner from there on despite some effort shown by the Lilwyhites later on in the game.
The Lilwyhites are conceding too many goals at the moment and their backline looks all over the place. The absence of Eric Dier seems to be a big loss and neither Cristian Romero nor Sanchez seem to be anchoring the team at the back in pivotal moments through the game.
Whilst Rodrigo Bentancur started his first match in a Spurs jersey, he was still getting used to the pace of the Premier League. The London-based club has missed the presence of a more assertive player in the middle of the park and that has reflected poorly in their recent games.

There is still a lot of work to be done at N-17 and the last couple of matches made that fact very evident. With every match, the hopes of getting a place in the UEFA Champions League next season seem even slimmer. That being said the fans would be hoping that the club can put on better performances in the upcoming fixtures.
