Injury News: Tottenham Hotspur duo set to miss Wolves clash

Oliver Skipp explains Tottenham Hotspur players are still behind Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tottenham Hotspur duo Oliver Skipp and Eric Dier are set to miss the upcoming Premier League match due to injury

According to (Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur players Oliver Skipp and Eric Dier will miss the Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers because of their injuries.

The Lilywhites have struggled to maintain their consistency in the PL this season. They dropped crucial points in their last encounter against Southampton after conceding two late goals courtesy of Che Adams and Mohamed Elyounoussi in the last 10 minutes of normal time.

Son Heung-Min was the only Spurs player to get on the scoresheet against the Saints. The North Londoners would be looking to make more of an impact in their game against Wolves should they want to make a bid for a top-four spot in England’s top flight this season.

The Lilywhites will have to face the Wanderers without a couple of their key players. Let us take a look at the list of injured players who will be unavailable

Oliver Skipp

The 21-year-old has been a revelation in this Spurs side and was slowly starting to cement his place under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo. The English professional footballer provides a sturdy option in the middle of the park creating a good defensive cover for the team.

The youngster was loaned out to Norwich FC last season and it seems to have done a great deal for his development. Skipp has grown in stature and his unavailability could be a grave loss for the London-based club.

In an interview earlier this week (h/t Football.London), Antonio Conte spoke about the 21-year-old midfielder. He asserted that the youngster is improving at a great pace and his unavailability is unfortunate for the club:

“He had a problem then we tried to take care with him then we need to have a bit of patience with him. He is another player that I have seen great improvement in him. It’s a pity that he is unavailable.”

Eric Dier

The 28-year-old has been at the heart of the defensive setup at N-17 ever since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club. Whilst quite a few managers have come and gone since that time, Dier has always managed to stay put and anchor the backline.

The English defender has loads of experience for the North Londoners and despite having some inconsistencies from time to time has managed to be a commanding presence at the back.

In his pre-match conference for the fixture against Wolves, (h/t Football.London), Conte gave us a fitness update regarding Eric Dier. He also highlighted how the unavailability of the experienced player was a big loss for Spurs:

“No, unfortunately, he is not fit. For sure, he is a big loss for us. He needs a bit more time to recover. I don’t know if… I hope to have him available for the next game, away against Manchester City, but for this game, for sure, he is not available.”

The North Londoners seem to be going in a positive direction under their new Italian manager. That being said there is still a lot of work to be done at N-17 which was made evident in their loss to Southampton as well as the early exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League.

A top-four finish in the PL could ensure qualification to the UEFA Champions League next season which would be a good place to start for the club. With that in mind, the Lilywhites will have to start performing consistently if they are to climb up the table.
