Injury News: Tottenham Hotspur get Eric Dier boost ahead of Manchester City clash but Oliver Skipp still a doubt
As per the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are set to welcome back defender Eric Dier ahead of the trip to the Etihad Stadium to face defending champions Manchester City in the Premier League.
Dier last played for the club against Chelsea last month, putting in 90 minutes worth of a shift at the back as Spurs fell to a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Since then, Tottenham have been on a three-game losing streak in the league, being defeated by Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It now looks like Dier is set to return for their next game, and prevent this recent slide.
The Lilywhites have looked lost at the back, making silly mistakes and gifting the ball to the opposition to score past them. While they were unable to keep the lead twice against the Saints, their attack offered nothing against a Wolves backline that showed Spurs how to go about the job.
Skipp may miss City trip
While news about the 28-year-old Dier’s return will please manager Antonio Conte, he will not be too keen on hearing about the injury update on midfielder Oliver Skipp. The player is said to have suffered a delay in his recovery from a thigh injury.
Dier meanwhile, has been working back to full fitness after complications in identifying the severity of his muscular issue. The Englishman is expected to rejoin full training this week.
Conte will be hugely relieved to have Dier back ahead of the City clash on the weekend, given the recent performances from his defenders. The backline looks out of sorts and unstable, with even the ever-reliable skipper Hugo Lloris contributing to their own downfall against Wolves.
A defensive boost is needed soon, and Dier’s expected return will please Spurs fans. We need results soon if we are to climb up the Premier League table, and the test against Manchester City will be our hardest one yet.

Spurs are chasing a top-four spot in the league table this season, with the intention of playing Champions League football next season. Currently lagging in eighth place, results need to come quick and they need to be consistent.
Conte will be glad about the club having multiple games in mind, giving them an opportunity to make up the deficit and sneak their way into the top four. Dier’s expected return is good news for the manager, and he will hope that the Englishman’s return will boost the squad and put together a winning run soon.
