Tottenham Hotspur shut down summer transfer links to Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale
According to Alasdair Gold, the club’s correspondent for Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have firmly shut down recent links to Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale regarding a potential reunion next summer.
Gold has claimed that Tottenham insiders quickly dismissed talks surrounding a summer move for Bale. This update would undoubtedly put an end to the supposed claims of a third spell for the Welsh international at N-17.
The 32-year-old has less than six months left in his current deal with Real and is set to leave the club on a Bosman transfer. Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the forward would be leaving them for free at the end of this campaign. Spurs were touted as his next destination before it was put to a close by this recent update.
A sensible approach
The 32-year-old has played just five matches this season, having been sidelined by injuries throughout this season. The risk factor involved in signing the winger permanently even on a free transfer is too high as he may not be available for selection most of the time.
Moreover, the eye-watering £600,000-a-week wage package that the La Liga star earns at this instant is not feasible even without the injuries. Even if he agrees to take a salary cut, his lack of availability alone makes him a high-risk signing especially, when we are not blessed with depth in the frontline.
The Madrid star did enjoy a great loan spell last campaign with us, but injuries prevented him from reaching his best. He had featured in 34 matches while scoring 16 goals alongside three assists across all competitions. The attacker still possesses the quality to replicate that output if he can keep himself fit for long periods.

Unfortunately, that is not the case, so the North London club have done well regarding the topic of the Welsh international. It remains to be seen if there would be a change in stance in the coming months if the wide attacker can maintain his fitness in the remainder of this season.
Los Blancos veteran would become a much better prospect in that case as he has shown signs of quality after returning from the long term injury. It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte would be tempted by his availability next summer or not.
