William Gallas believes Tottenham Hotspur have little choice but to sell forward Harry Kane next summer
According to bet365 (h/t The Sun), ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas is of the opinion that the club needs to let go of their talisman Harry Kane in the summer.
Kane has had a rocky season so far, playing under two managers and struggling to find a consistent run of form this term. The English skipper has failed to hit his usual high standards this campaign, looking short of confidence and form.
Gallas, who moved to Spurs in 2010 after playing for arch-rivals Arsenal, declared that the striker has his mind elsewhere and that the club should cut ties with arguably their best player at the end of the season.
“For the last few years, he’s been the top scorer of the club and the Premier League and at times it’s almost looked like he may rather be playing elsewhere. In my opinion, Tottenham doesn’t really have any choice but to let him leave now at the end of the season.”
These comments come after the Englishman was linked to rivals Manchester City in the previous summer transfer window. The move eventually broke down and the striker remained in north London.
Needs to go?
This season, the England skipper seems to have misplaced his scoring boots and has been unable to supply Spurs with the goals they need. Kane’s struggles in front of the goal are evident with him scoring just five goals from 21 Premier League games.
Gallas put down Kane’s poor form to the striker’s disappointment at not leaving at the end of the previous season and said that the club need to let him go to cut their losses.
“At the beginning of the season, I said they have to sell him. Harry wanted to leave, and he was really disappointed he didn’t go. When you are disappointed you have two choices – to put yourself right and come back on the pitch and play as you need to, or you give up.”
Kane’s failed move to City last year is hardly a secret, and Spurs fans would have been relieved to see their star striker stay with the club for one more season. Only time will tell whether the Englishman will stay beyond the current season, or seek a move away once again.
Gallas’ comments may ring true with some, who have been wondering why Kane has suffered such a drastic drop in form. A breakdown in a move away from the club could very well be a telling factor in the striker looking short of confidence.

However, it may be easy to forget that Kane has had to work under two managers with different styles this season, which is very likely to affect his performance. Manager Antonio Conte‘s arrival has seen a recent upturn in the 28-year-old’s form, and we can hope that it continues until the summer.
Whatever the reason, Kane’s future could be a talking point in the summer. Spurs fans will hope that Conte’s presence will convince their talisman to stay for next season, and the club is able to finish in the top four so that Kane is able to play Champions League football next term.
