Sergio Reguilon reveals why he wasn’t in the Tottenham Hotspur team that faced Manchester City yesterday
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon took to Twitter to reveal why Antonio Conte didn’t pick him for yesterday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.
After a decent spell last season, Sergio Reguilon has been our go-to left-back when available for selection. With our Italian manager using Ben Davies as a third centre-back, his options are limited in the left wing-back role.
And yesterday, Antonio Conte picked Ryan Sessegnon to start the all-important PL game vs Man City in Reguilon’s absence. But the Spaniard has now clarified the reason he was out of the squad in a recent Tweet. He revealed that a Covid infection prevented him from getting on the field and added that he could make a fast comeback to first-team action.
“I can not play today due to Covid. Time to support my teammates from home. I will be back soon.”
Sessegnon, who hasn’t played a lot of football this campaign for us, was pretty impressive last night, in both the attacking and defensive phases of the game. His runs down that flank were important in giving us the width we needed for carrying out our deadly counter-attacks.
Our team secured a stunning 3-2 victory last night against Pep Guardiola’s team, courtesy of Harry Kane’s last-minute winner. This is a victory worth celebrating, sweetened by the fact that Sessegnon can be an able replacement for Reguilon when the ex-Real Madrid is unavailable for selection.
Sergio Reguilón has been one of our finest players in the last year or so. However, we can’t wholly rely on his services for the entire season and require quality alternatives, and Sessegnon, who enjoyed decent loan spells at Hoffenheim and Fulham, has proven that he can take up the mantle when needed.

We take on Burnley and Leeds United in the next 6 days and it remains to be seen if Reguilon can return a negative Covid-19 test to feature in our starting XI once again. With a top-four finish at stake this season, we need all the help we can get from our first-team players.
