Massimo Carrera: Why Tottenham Hotspur players follow Antonio Conte without hesitation
Massimo Carrera has conveyed the reason why Tottenham Hotspur players follow Antonio Conte without any hesitation. The entire squad and the boss have established a strong connection with each other in a short period.
Tottenham have been subjected to a sense of togetherness since the Italian coach has been appointed to take over the managerial role. He has certainly made an impact with the entire squad in a short space of time. Moreover, his identity has already been instilled within the team, which is also highlighted during the matches.
Speaking in an interview with Calcio Napoli 1926 (h/t Evening Standard), Carrera, who worked alongside Conte at Juventus, believes that the latter can uplift a team to reach their best “mentally and physically”. He added that the way the Spurs manager carries himself makes the players follow him without any issues. Finally, he says that the outcome is reflected through the performances within the games.
“Conte manages to bring the team to a maximum level both mentally and physically. The players follow him without problems because everything he says outside the green rectangle is then reflected on the pitch.”
Signs of something great?
The sentiment has certainly changed within the North London club following the arrival of the 52-year-old manager. His infectious passion and fight have been instilled into the squad, which can be traced back to some of our performances recently.
The comeback against Leeds United, the one against Leicester City and the recent spectacular victory against Manchester City are some of the performances which fall under that category. That has been the case during our losses as well, showing the former Inter Milan coach’s impact at N17 so far.
Eric Dier recently conveyed the same regarding the Spurs coach as he mentioned that the latter helped him to gain “confidence”, which resulted in the improved displays. That aligns with what Carrera said about the manager impacting the player “mentally” to get the best out of them.

Davinson Sanchez expressed last month that the Tottenham boss demanded the players to give everything during training sessions, enabling them to put in the work effort during actual matches. Hence, Carrera’s words are not just hollow praise for his ex-colleague.
Things have not always gone our way, but improvements have certainly been visible during the Italian coach’s time with us. Let’s hope that he can push us to the next season’s Champions League despite the stern challenge we are bound to face up ahead.
