Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte taunts counter-attack accusations on social media
Antonio Conte has taken to his Instagram account to sweep aside claims that Tottenham Hotspur employed only a counter-attack tactic to get them the win against Manchester City. His side were the victors on the night, having beaten the opponents with the help of a later winner from Harry Kane.
Following the match, some had stated that Spurs simply depended on counter-attacks to get the three points against Man City. However, the oversimplification of a hard victory does not appreciate the effort they had put in to be the victors at the end of the game.
Conte posted on his Instagram handle clips of Tottenham playing with conviction and finesse on the ball. The video included the three goals scored by his team which was all the result of some beautiful link up in the build-up phase. He captioned the post by saying, “Counter-attacks? Maybe not”.
Nice one boss!
Pep Guardiola’s side dominated possession just like they have done against most teams they played against this season. That was the case against us as well, as they created many opportunities, with some being clear cut ones as they troubled us on several occasions.
That should not cause people to be narrow-minded with their way of thinking by not looking at the bigger picture. When we were in control of the ball, the team performed well during that limited time, which also resulted in some intricate plays between the players.
While the three goals happened “quickly”, the context shows us that they were not counter-attacks, to begin with, in the first place. As such, it was really difficult to see the accusations being made when there was clear proof stating otherwise.

Moreover, even if we had employed just counter-attacks, there is nothing wrong with utilising such methods. Football is not played in one single matter. The sport is a collection of vast amounts of ideas and variations created by different individuals, which eventually makes it beautiful in the end.
Restricting the beautiful sport to be viewed through a single lens is a massive disservice to the game. Regardless of what happened, we are hopeful that people can learn from their mistakes and acknowledge the truth moving forward.
