Tottenham Hotspur handed Dele Alli transfer boost regarding MK Dons sell-on clause
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur do not have to meet the full sell-on fee to MK Dons following the transfer of Dele Alli to Everton. He had moved to Goodison Park last month after failing to take advantage of his opportunities under Antonio Conte.
Tottenham had facilitated a free transfer for Alli to join the Merseyside club last month. That was done despite him having years left in his contract at N17. However, they included several clauses in the agreement where they would be paid a considerable amount if certain objectives are met in the future.
The Dons had included a 20 per cent sell-on clause when they sold the Englishman to Spurs back in 2015. They will get a part of the add-ons if they are met in the future, but it will fall lower than expectations. The Toffees will pay Spurs over £30million if all the targets are reached, of which £10million will be paid when he makes 20 appearances in total.
A good deal in the end?
It seems that the obligatory clause would have only applied if Antonio Conte’s side received an initial amount upfront. As such, Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy may have made a clever play here to get the most out of the move that took place last month.
Initially, it was thought that we finalised a transfer in this manner because of the 25-year-old’s decline over the years. Hence, Frank Lampard’s side would only have to pay the amount if the midfielder succeeds with them following the move. However, with this update, there may have been another motive behind it after all.
However, the Toffees star must do well moving forward to ensure that the clauses are activated in the future. If not, we would not receive any benefits despite the new revelation regarding the sell-on clause.

Let’s hope that the former Spurs ace can recapture his initial promise for the benefit of all parties. He has already made three appearances for Everton, so we could be in line to receive a financial boost if this trajectory is maintained. As for the payment that needs to be paid to the third division team, it remains to be seen what the rate will be when we receive the add-ons.
