Tottenham Hotspur suffer Oliver Skipp setback ahead of trip to Burnley
According to Football.London, and Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur star Oliver Skipp has suffered an infection to his injury ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Burnley. This update is concerning as he has been one of our most consistent performers since Antonio Conte took over as the manager.
Skipp picked up a groin issue during the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea and has been in rehab for quite a while. He has not featured since then as Tottenham are concerned about the infection endured by the 21-year-old during recovery. He will also miss the game tomorrow as the club have decided that he would only play after achieving full recovery. The Italian boss pressured the medical department to make him available, but his request was denied in the end.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Football.London), Conte has confirmed that the Spurs midfielder will be on the stands alongside Japhet Tanganga. He also added that Sergio Reguilon had missed the training yesterday, but they are waiting to see how the situation develops later today. Finally, he revealed that Harry Kane had a knock on his back, but he is fit to make it into the matchday squad.
“About Skipp and Tanganga, they’re recovering but they are still not ready for the game against Burnley. About Sergio [Reguilon], at yesterday’s training session, he wasn’t present but we’ll see today. He [Kane] had a hit in his back but he has to play! Harry knows very well the importance he has on the squad for his personality, for his experience. But he is good. He is good, he is ready.”
Mixed feelings
It is good to know that Kane has completely recovered from the back problem. After all, he needs to keep building on the momentum to find his form from last season. That would ensure we have a greater chance of achieving success under the 52-year-old manager.
The situation regarding Skipp would undoubtedly create concerns among the fanbase. After all, he was arguably the best performer since the former Inter Milan coach took over the managerial role at N17. His presence in midfield has certainly been missed, considering the slump we underwent recently.
While Ryan Sessegnon dropped a solid performance against Man City, he tends to switch off during games. Reguilon has been better than him for us this term, so we would eagerly be waiting for him to return as soon as possible.

As for Tanganga, we have sufficient cover in the centre-back spots, especially since Eric Dier has returned to the mix. While we have players missing from the squad, the team is good enough to get all three points at the end of the day.
But we must not take Sean Dyche’s side lightly since they have been on a good run of form since the break. That being said, anything less than three points would be disappointing, especially after the display we enjoyed against the Citizens.
