Antonio Conte pressures Tottenham Hotspur medical department over injury concerns
Antonio Conte has asked for help from Tottenham Hotspur medical department due to his concerns regarding the availability of Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tanganga. He spoke about the matter ahead of the Premier League clash against Leeds United, which will take place at Elland Road tomorrow.
Skipp had picked up an issue on his groin, which was made worse due to contracting an infection during rehabilitation. He has been out for almost a month as a result, with Tanganga also being on the same boat. The defender had suffered a setback on his knee and has been out for around the same time interval.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Conte was asked about the return dates of the Tottenham duo, which prompted the reply from the boss. He pleaded to the Spurs medics to support him as both of them have been out on the sidelines for quite some time.
“No this is another problem. I hope the medical department help me. Skipp is now one month missing. Same with Tanganga. I don’t want to put pressure on the medical department but for sure I need help with the situation.”
The Italian boss also gave the latest injury update on Rodrigo Bentancur, who endured a problem on his knee during the loss to Burnley. Contrary to the fears following the scans on Thursday, which stated that the midfielder would be out for about three weeks, the coach was not concerned about the injury.
“Unfortunately he’s not available for tomorrow’s game. He had a problem in his ankle. I don’t think this is a serious problem. I hope to see him in the team very soon but for sure he’s not available tomorrow.”
What’s going on?
Just like the 52-year-old boss manager, we are also concerned about the situation of Tanganga and Skipp as they have been unavailable for quite a long time. Now, the injury to Bentancur has made the situation even worse as we have just two options in midfield.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks are the only midfielders who are fit to feature against Leeds tomorrow. That means we are really in a precarious situation as another injury or suspension to any of them could derail our season amidst an ongoing poor run of form.

We are hopeful that the medical department can solve this situation at the earliest to give us the addition of Skipp into the midfield. However, they are not the only ones to blame for this situation, as the board failed to negate the departures we had in January.
We lost three midfielders in Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso but brought in only Bentancur into the centre of the pitch. That raises questions about the management and what their plans were when they facilitated the exits last month. Let’s hope that the club medics can get the players on the injury list back to contention as soon as possible.
