Liverpool enter transfer race for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to The Northern Echo, Liverpool have entered the race to sign Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The youngster has seen his stock rise following the excellent performances in the FA Cup.
Tottenham tried to secure Spence’s services in the January transfer window. They failed to finalise a move in the end but continue to keep tabs on his progress. Boro are expected to receive offers for their talented youngster at the end of this season.
It is claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side will pursue the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window. The Championship club could receive around £15million through his sale, with Arsenal also keeping tabs on the situation. The Gunners had also approached Spence to sign him last month but eventually failed in their efforts.
Payback time?
The Englishman is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and has been sensational for them for quite some time. Two of his most memorable displays were against Mikel Arteta’s side and Leicester City, as Forest knocked them both out in consecutive rounds of the FA Cup.
The Boro fullback’s performances have earned him a lot of praise which has attracted attention from elsewhere as a result. We must be on our toes regarding the entry of the Reds as they certainly have the capabilities to prise him away from our clutches.
We have first-hand experience about it as Jurgen Klopp’s team beat us to sign Luis Diaz from Porto late in the January transfer window. The North London club cannot afford to let a repeat of the same happen and must do all in their power to seal the deal for the 21-year-old.
Spence’s valuation seems reasonable after taking into account his performances and the potential the Championship superstar has displayed so far. With Emerson Royal struggling to make an impact offensively, we could definitely do with the youngster’s addition to the roster.
