Tottenham Hotspur held talks with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen regarding a summer transfer
According to the Italian media outlet Calciomercato via Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen over a potential transfer next summer. He could be in line to leave Stamford Bridge, considering the situation that has unravelled in West London regarding his contract.
Christensen has less than six months left in his current deal with the Blues. They have failed to reach an agreement over a renewal so far, which has resulted in interest from elsewhere. It is claimed that he “continues to give priority” to extend his contract but is keeping his options if common ground cannot be found in the coming months.
As a result, the Dane’s representatives have already contacted Tottenham to discuss a potential move in the future. Bayern Munich are also in the same boat, having met with his camp to set up things in the case of a transfer at the end of the current campaign.
Christensen to join Spurs?
Our fierce rivalry with Thomas Tuchel’s side seems not to be an obstacle in this case as negotiations have already been held over a future move. That being said, the 25-year-old’s first preference to renew his contract would be a bit of a problem.
Even if the Premier League centre-back cannot find common ground with his time, it does not guarantee that we can finalise a transfer as a result. After all, Bayern Munchen would not sit idly, and we must be wary about their interest. Moreover, the German side could also offer him a solution where the Chelsea fans would not turn hostile as they would in the case of a Spurs move.
However, if Fabio Paratici can pull off a transfer, the Blues ace would be a great addition to our backline. Antonio Conte has already approved of his signing as the defender is on his wish list alongside Juventus’ Matthijs de Ligt and Stefan de Vrij of Inter Milan.
The need for improvements in the defence has been highlighted during the recent slump in the Premier League. That has seen us fall off in the race to qualify for the Champions League next term. We must address the problem as a result as the Danish star can definitely help in that regard.

Davinson Sanchez has improved quite a lot under Conte, but mistakes are still a part of his game. When Eric Dier was out with an injury, our fragility in defence was highlighted due to the lack of a centre-back of a similar profile. Ben Davies is not a specialist central defender in whereas Joe Rodon has failed to gain the manager’s trust.
Japhet Tanganga can be useful, but his current level is not suitable to compete at the top regularly. Christensen can solve these problems to an extent, but it remains to be seen if we can sign him or not next summer.
