Transfer News: Blow for Tottenham Hotspur as Juventus plan to offer new contract to Paulo Dybala
According to Sky Italy via Sport Witness (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur could face a transfer blow in their pursuit of forward Paulo Dybala as Juventus confirmed that they are set to begin contract talks at the end of the month.
With the forward’s Juventus contract expiring at the end of the season, it is a perfect opportunity for Spurs to make a move for an attacking option to consistently provide them goals.
However, they could be set to face an obstacle in their efforts to sign La Joya as Juve have confirmed that they intend to open discussions over a new contract for their star striker. And that doesn’t come as a surprise, given how he has arguably become the face of the club’s attack since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure to Manchester United last summer.
Over the past few seasons, the Lilywhites have been overly reliant on Harry Kane for their goals. However, the Englishman has failed to recreate that form this campaign, and Spurs have consequently suffered because of that.
“Eye to the future”
Dybala is no doubt one of Serie A’s best forwards, with the Argentina international proving it over a number of seasons in Italy for both Palermo and Juventus. His exploits with his national team are no joke either, establishing him as a fearsome presence in the attacking third of the pitch.
All these reasons make him an exciting prospect for Spurs in the summer, but Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene seems to have thrown a spanner in their transfer plans by saying that they were planning to sit down with Dybala at the end of the month for talks over a new deal.
“We will meet all expiring players at the end of February. We look ahead and, in addition to Dybala, we will also have to discuss the other renewals. We will do it in the right time and with an eye to the future.”
Snapping up Dybala for free would have been an excellent piece of business for Tottenham, having to pay nothing for such an accomplished striker. In today’s inflated transfer market, the ex-Palermo man would otherwise cost a pretty penny.
Spurs will hope that the Italian giants fail to reach an agreement over a new contract when they sit down for negotiations with Dybala, so they can swoop in for the Argentine star in the summer. The 28-year-old would make for a smart addition to a Tottenham side that could use a world-class addition in their attacking line.

We seem to have a good relationship with Juventus when it comes to transfers, given that we managed to snap up football director Fabio Paratici and midfielders Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur over the past year from the Serie A club.
This space will be interesting to watch over the next few months to see whether the Argentine is able to agree on a new deal with the Old Lady. Dybala, who can play as a 10, a right-winger, and a centre-forward, would potentially be a statement signing- one that would show Conte how much they are ready to back him.
