Manager Antonio Conte cools fears over Tottenham Hotspur exit ahead of Leeds showdown
Speaking in his pre-match conference ahead of the game against Leeds United today (h/t Evening Standard), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has calmed fears that he might depart the club before the end of the season.
Spurs lost their previous league game 1-0 to Burnley away at Turf Moor, and the head coach was visibly upset in the post-match interview as he questioned whether he was the right man for the job at Tottenham.
Conte has now put those doubts to rest and he committed his future to the Lilywhites, saying that the north London side was happy with his work so far and was appreciative of him.
“The club is the first to know our real situation and the club confirmed to me they know the reality. The club is very happy about my work, about what we are doing with my staff.”
“The change that we brought in these four months in this club, in the training ground, in this environment. I’m sure the club is appreciating a lot what we are doing.”
The Italian will be hoping that his team puts this wretched league form behind them and kick on at Elland Road against a Leeds United side that is struggling as well. Spurs look favourite heading into this tie, but it remains to be seen whether they can pull off an away win given their recent form.
“No problem”
His outburst at Turf Moor came after his side fell to their fourth defeat in five league games, as the club embarked on a terrible run of form domestically. It leaves Conte’s side in eighth place, some distance away from the top four of the Premier League table.
His comments after the loss against Burnley may have concerned some, but Conte said that club chairman Daniel Levy was aware of the fact that the former Chelsea manager was committed to the club and would help them in all aspects.
“Daniel Levy knows very well that I’m here to help the club in every moment and will help the club until the end. I want to help the club in every aspect – with my vision and my ideas about football, for improvement. And I repeat, [there is] no problem.”
The ex-Inter Milan man is one of the finest managers in the game, recently winning a Serie A title with the Italian giants last season as he led them to a league trophy in nearly 11 years. Such is his dominance that he broke his own winning streak as head coach with Juventus, which lasted 9 years – although he was there from just 2011 to 2014.
He has vast experience in England as well, winning the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2017. Clearly, the boss has won everywhere he has gone, and Spurs will hope that he can recreate the same magic with them next season.

For now, their goal is to ensure Champions League football next season. With Spurs in eighth place in the league table, the journey will be hard but not impossible, given the club have multiple games in hand to make up for the deficit.
Conte is clearly a passionate man, and his recent comments may have suggested that his time at Tottenham was up. Evidently, his passion and honesty were mistaken for him wanting to leave the club, and now that these comments have been addressed, the Italian will look to put this behind him and kick on at Elland Road later tonight.
