Tottenham Hotspur interested in RB Leipzig defender Angelino
According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur have taken an interest in RB Leipzig star Angelino as they look to add reinforcements to their squad in the summer.
Spurs currently have Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilon, and Ryan Sessegnon who can operate in the left-back and left wing-back roles, but the trio has not been able to establish themselves in the position or prove to be undroppable.
With this in mind, the Lilywhites are looking to snap up Angelino at the end of the season, who will be into the last year of his current contract with Leipzig which expires in the summer of 2023.
Tottenham’s last addition to the squad at left-back was Reguilon in 2020. Despite starting life in north London brightly, the Spaniard has waned in his performances of late and it seems that the club wants to strengthen in that position with their apparent interest in Angelino.

Manager Antonio Conte prefers playing in a three-man defence system, which means that wing-backs are an essential part of the way Spurs play. The Italian will need players who can not only defend but also offer an attacking threat to opposition defences and support the forwards up front.
Angelino would be a useful addition in that regard, with the former Manchester City defender scoring 10 goals and notching 24 assists in 84 appearances in the Bundesliga. He has proven to be a constant attacking outlet for Leipzig, and one of their most dangerous players on the flanks.
Conte has relied on Sessegnon to play in the left wing-back position of late, hoping that the winger can do a defensive job for the side. The Englishman has only done a satisfactory job in this new role, while the manager has used Davies as a central defender more than a wide man.
The more that Angelino’s qualities are talked about, the more it makes sense for Tottenham to snap up him in the summer to bolster their defence. With prior Premier League experience in his kitty during his time with City, the player knows what is needed to thrive in England.

Tottenham could very well be looking at a busy summer with regard to transfers after the side let four players leave in January but were only able to bring in two midfielders to north London in the end. The summer transfer plan needs to be executed perfectly to make up for past mistakes.
It remains to be seen whether Angelino has any desire to come back to the Premier League, given his excellent returns playing in Germany over the past few years. If he does, then Spurs will need to make sure they convince him that their club suits him and his abilities the best.
