Tottenham Hotspur coach Wayne Burnett prime target for several EFL clubs
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur youth coach Wayne Burnett is being monitored by several clubs in the Championship as they search for new managers ahead of next season.
The summer is rife with rumours of potential managerial changes and squad rebuilds in not just the Premier League, but also the Championship as clubs are prepared to make their mark in their respective leagues and fight for trophies.
Given this background, there is little surprise about Burnett being touted as a future EFL manager, given the coach’s brilliant work at the club as manager of the Tottenham U23s. He has been at this post since 2017.
The Tottenham Hotspur U-23s are currently fifth in the table in the Premier League 2 table, although with multiple games in hand to give them a chance to rise in the rankings. Their senior side’s league position is much worse however, as Spurs are currently eighth in the Premier League.
Eye for future stars
Burnett may not have top-flight experience or been involved heavily with the senior side at the club, but that has not stopped EFL clubs from monitoring his situation from afar. It remains to be seen whether the youth coach will swap his role in the summer.
The 50-year-old is widely respected and admired for being the one responsible for promoting several academy starlets to the first team, such Oliver Skipp, Japhet Tanganga, and Troy Parrott.
Spurs have a decent record of promoting youth players to become established first-team stars, with none more famous than Harry Kane. The player has grown leaps and bounds since being given an opportunity in the senior side and is now the club’s talismanic forward.
Skipp seems to have worked his way into becoming a regular feature under manager Antonio Conte this season, with the Englishman getting quite a few starts under the Spurs boss in midfield in the Premier League.

Burnett is the one to be credited for doing a brilliant job in developing and promoting youngsters to the first team, as the youth coach strengthens the academy and establishes the club as a side that is capable of producing its own stars rather than buying them in the transfer market.
Hopefully, Tottenham can keep hold of him beyond the summer despite interest from other EFL clubs and hope that the Englishman continues to promote talent for the senior side. Only time will tell what the U-23s coach has in his mind about his future.
