Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte reveals his thoughts after their match against Leeds United
In his post-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte shared his highlights from his team’s game after a pivotal victory against Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Italian manager seemed to be a happy man as his side beat the Whites with a scoreline of 4-0. Harry Kane is starting to regain his form and January signing Dejan Kulusevski has also had a great impact since making the move to N-17.
Both of them got on the scoresheet as the North Londoners cruised past the Yorkshire-based club. Son Heung-Min also chipped in with a late strike in the 85th minute after the game was comfortably put to bed but Matt Doherty was the one who got the ball rolling for the Lilywhites on the day.
Ryan Sessegnon put in a perfect low cross for the Irish wing-back as he put the ball in the back of the net past Ilan Meslier. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back almost repaid the favour late into the second half as he put in a scrumptious ball but the young wing-back couldn’t get clean contact on the ball.
Speaking after the match (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte seemed to be greatly impressed by the fight and spirit shown by his side. Before this game, Spurs were on a rancid run where they lost 4 of their last 5 league games.
“For the first time, I have seen my mark, about this system. The creation from one wing-back and the other wing-back scoring. It means that the work is starting to work.”
“It was a good performance for us against a strong team that is not simple to play against. Today we played a really good game, good football. What I wanted to see today was the right spirit, the right character to fight and win the ball and duels, against a team that are masters in this situation”
Spurs have struggled to maintain their consistency in the last few matches. It has been a roller coaster ride for fans as the North Londoners’ emphatic victory against current league leaders Manchester City was followed by a disappointing defeat to Burnley in our next PL fixture at Turf Moor.
This aptly showcases the lack of uniformity in their results this season. Despite their recent struggles, there were certainly some positives to be taken out of this game. The North Londoners also managed to keep a clean sheet on the day but the home side came very close to scoring as Hugo Lloris failed to clear his lines in the second half.
Thankfully, Stuart Dallas took a lot of time which gave Ben Davies enough time to make a great interception to preserve their clean sheet. This match also proved to be another landmark for the attacking duo of Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane who have now broken the record for the most goal combinations in the Premier League.
