Tottenham Hotspur dealt transfer blow as Franck Kessie looks certain to join Barcelona
According to the Spanish media outlet Sport (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a damning blow as Franck Kessie looks certain to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window. He is in line to leave AC Milan at the end of the season, and it seems that Camp Nou would be his next destination.
Kessie will become a free agent at the end of this season, which has attracted interest from a lot of clubs. He could legally sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs at this stage. That could be a possibility since he has already conveyed to Milan that he will not sign an extension in the coming months.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton were also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old alongside Tottenham, but they have been dealt with a massive roadblock. That is because Barca are close to finalising a transfer for the midfielder at the end of this season. He was ready to stay at San Siro if the Rossoneri had met his salary demands of £100,000-a-week, which proved to be an obstacle.
Spurs to lose out again?
We cannot afford to be on the receiving end of another blow, just as the setbacks we endured in the January transfer window. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case if this latest piece of information is to be believed. However, all is not done until we receive absolute confirmation from reliable sources.
But if we hope to gain ground on the Catalans, we need to change the Ivorian’s stance at this moment. That is because the central midfielder is “unconvinced” by the proposals he has received from the Premier League so far. That also includes us, which makes it puzzling, to say the least.
It is still unknown what the unconvincing terms in the proposed deal were, but Spurs must rectify them before the Serie A star signs a pre-contract agreement. That would completely put the matter out of our hands, which is concerning since we are desperate for quality midfield additions.
Our depth in the midfield areas is questionable, considering how we were down to just Harry Winks and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at one point. That is because Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur were out on the sidelines against Leeds United putting into perspective our dire situation.

The North London club failed to bring in an adequate number of backups for the outgoings like Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele. That was a mistake on our part, so we cannot afford to suffer the consequences for too long. Kessie could have addressed the issue next summer, but it seems we may have to look at alternatives. That being said, we could still fight for his signature to see if there is an opportunity in the remaining months.
