Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte wants to win the FA Cup to reward fans
Speaking ahead of his side’s FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte said he wanted to repay Spurs fans with the love they have shown him by winning the FA Cup trophy for them by the end of the season.
The Italian came to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium amidst much hype and fanfare, given that he had only recently won the Serie A title with Inter Milan last season. However, things have not gone that smoothly at Spurs since his arrival.
Despite recent league defeats, Conte said he wanted to thank the fans for warming to him despite it only being four months since his arrival and chanting his name at games.
“First of all I want to say thanks to the fans because I think that I don’t deserve after only four months to have this – them chanting for me. They love me and I would like to repay their trust to improve their situation with the players for Tottenham for this club.”
The Lilywhites’ Premier League form has been terrible of late, losing four out of their previous six league games. This also included a hat-trick of league defeats earlier this month.
“Best way to repay”
The former Chelsea manager will lead his team out tonight at the Riverside Stadium to ensure they take one step closer to winning the FA Cup trophy, as the Italian aims to end his debut season with Spurs on a high by winning his first title with his new club.
Conte said that he was grateful to the fans for their love and support, and the only way he knows how to reward them for their affection is by winning the domestic cup competition for them.
“And the only way that I know to repay is through effort and by trying to make our fans proud of our team and Tottenham by winning the cup. This would be the best way to repay and for sure we are working very hard to make this happen.”
Tottenham have not won a trophy since 2008, and no manager since then has been able to break this drought. Mauricio Pochettino came close before, leading the club to Champions League and League Cup finals but falling short at the last hurdle.
Conte will look to change the club’s fortunes around, given that the ex-Juventus boss is a serial winner as manager. The Italian has won wherever he has gone, and Spurs will hope that he continues his fine work in north London as well.

With the Lilywhites in seventh place in the league table, the PL title is a distant dream. However, they could still finish the season strongly by getting their hands on the FA Cup before this summer. Last season’s cup run saw us get dumped out by Everton in extra time in the fifth round.
Spurs fans have been desperate for silverware for over a decade now, and with Conte’s managerial record, the hope is that the new boss is able to turn things around. As a first step to winning the cup, he will have to overcome a Boro side tonight who famously dumped Manchester United out of the competition in the previous round.
