Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Arsenal for River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur will battle it out with Arsenal to secure the services of River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez in the future. He is one of the brightest prospects in his team and could be in line to make the jump to Europe next season.
Fernandez has enjoyed a bright start to the current season, following up on his performances from the last term. Those displays have attracted attention from some of the major clubs in Europe, which prompted the Gunners and Tottenham to register their interests as well.
However, the two North London clubs are not the only ones keeping tabs on the situation. Real Madrid and West Ham United are also monitoring the 21-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see who among the four will be able to finalise a deal to get their hands on the highly-rated midfielder.
Who is Enzo Fernandez?
Primarily a central midfielder, the Argentine is also versatile enough to play in the defensive midfield when the situation asks for it. He has had a strong start to the current campaign, having made two assists already from four appearances in the Copa de la Liga.
The River youngster has quickly become a regular for his side at such a young age in his career, having risen through the ranks in the club’s academy previously. He has showcased his technical qualities for the South American side, earning a name for himself in the process.
The Argentinian star also puts in the work effort to compliment his technical qualities while possessing a knack to break opposition lines with ease. That could be the reason why Marcelo Gallardo has decided to depend on the starlet, which has certainly worked well in the end.
Spurs could definitely use a midfielder in their ranks, considering how tight they were in terms of midfield options for the match against Leeds United. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Winks were the only choices for Antonio Conte, as Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur were out with injuries.

The three January departures caused this dire situation which we must address at the end of this season. After all, it would not be wise to bolster our ranks as it could derail our season. However, a potential transfer would not be easy for us due to the interest from Mikel Arteta’s side.
The attention from West Ham and the Madrid club cannot be overlooked either as we near the end of the season. We are still unsure whether the Argentine side would entertain an offer for Fernandez or not. However, Fabio Paratici must put ourselves in a great spot at the earliest so that we can achieve the first refusal next summer. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
