Antonio Conte details what Tottenham Hotspur need to do to alter their history
Antonio Conte has explained what Tottenham Hotspur need to do to change their disappointing history of the past 20 years. He spoke on the matter in the pre-match press conference for the Premier League match against Burnley, which will take place on Monday.
The Tottenham boss has certainly steadied the ship since he has taken over the managerial role at N17. However, all is not well as things have been difficult for the manager of late following the disappointing run of form over the past two months or so. He has expressed his frustrations on his experience of being subjected to inconsistency in the performances.
Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t Football.London), Conte has mentioned that stability is key to ensuring that Spurs can become a top team over a long duration. He was adamant that no one can change such a history in a short period as the current repercussions have been a result of what had happened all those years ago.
“Tottenham’s story is this, many ups and downs, but to be competitive, to try to win something, to try to fight for something important and become a strong team, the first thing that has to happen is to be stable and avoid these ups and downs. To do this and to change this type of situation that is happening for many, many years in Tottenham, it’s not simple. In a short time, it’s impossible to do this, not only for me but I think for any manager or coach to come in and change the story in one second. Especially when this club for 20 years has this type of situation.”
Wise words
We have experienced this constant “up and down” inconsistency that the 52-year-old coach has conveyed in the last five games. We lost three games and won two matches in intervals which showcases that the manager has some weight to his words. This mediocre form is not the result of some recent mistake we have made rather what had happened all those years ago.
The failure to build on the great promise and the project we built under Mauricio Pochettino has put us in a declined state. That was the case in the latter stages of the Paris Saint-Germain coach as well, which denoted how the board was at fault for this decline. Their lack of “ambition” prevented us from growing even further, plus they also failed to plug the holes.

Stability would ensure that we have a solid foundation to build the project under the former Inter Milan manager’s guidance. For that to happen, a massive influx of quality into the team is necessary, which we are lacking at this instant. After all, the lack of depth in the midfield is the biggest example of this case.
That being said, we need to enjoy good business in the coming transfer windows to provide the Spurs manager with what he needs. It is up to the likes of Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to back the boss and help us get over this current plight. That means they would need to do better than the failures in the January transfer window. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
