Securing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is a major priorities for Manchester City
Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby (h/t The Sun), Pep Guardiola has recognized that Manchester City needs a proper striker and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland are at the top of their wishlist.
The Citizens came close to signing the English captain last summer but the deal fell through. The Lilywhites were demanding a fee of £160million whereas Man City were adamant about not spending anything more than £125million. In the end, Spurs got their way and the player stayed put.
The 28-year-old has been one of the most prolific strikers in world football over the last few years. Despite having a slow start to the campaign Kane is starting to get into the groove and has managed to bag 18 goals and chip in with four assists in 37 matches across all competitions so far.
Speaking ahead of the Manchester derby, Guardiola highlighted the importance of having a clinical striker in the Premier League. He also asserted that the Mancunian club would try its best to land a top striker.
“In the Premier League you have to play with a striker. We try but sometimes it’s not possible. So, we need a striker, I think the club is going to try. It hasn’t happened and we adapt to the players and never complain.”
Harry Kane and his time at Tottenham Hotspur
The 28-year-old is the perfect example of how a homegrown talent can make his name on the big stage of the Premier League. The English professional footballer has come a long way since first donning the Spurs jersey and has cemented his place in the hearts of Tottenham fans across the world.
Kane was having a bit of a rough patch at the start of the season and was finding the goals hard to come by. Whilst the English international is slowly picking up the pace Antonio Conte would be relying on his expertise to help salvage something respectable for the North Londoners this campaign.
Son Heung-Min and Kane have created a feared attacking combination for the club from N-17 and now possess the PL record for most goal combinations ever. This speaks volumes of their importance and output for the club.
This goes to show that Spurs would suffer a grave loss should any of these players depart. The club does not have any like-for-like replacement to the 28-year-old English striker as of yet with Dane Scarlett being the only option that comes to mind.
That being said, it could be too much of a burden to thrust him into first-team action at the age of 17 and ask him to succeed the likes of Kane. Whilst the likes of Son and Lucas Moura have played a central role upfront, they aren’t natural replacements for the English captain in said position.

In view of these remarks, it feels certain that the citizens could come knocking on the door for Harry Kane once again. Only time can tell whether or not the English international commits his long-term future to the club but the North Londoners would first be looking to put up better performances towards the business end of the season if they are to get anything from this campaign.
