Raphael Varane opens up on facing Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane ahead of weekend clash
Speaking to Manchester United’s official club website, defender Raphael Varane has opened up on the prospect of facing Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash.
Kane has been in sublime form of late, most recently scoring a brace against a poor Everton side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a 5-0 rout of the Toffees. His second goal, in particular, got fans out of their seats as he hit a sublime volley on his weaker foot.
Varane recognised the form that the Englishman is in, praising him as one of the best players in the Premier League as well as in the world, and said he liked playing against strikers like Kane in games. Having won four UEFA Champions League titles at Real Madrid, the Frenchman certainly knows what he is talking about.
“He’s in good form. He’s a very good player. I like to be playing against the best players in the world and in the Premier League there is a lot of very good strikers.”
Despite starting the season poorly, the Spurs talisman has been in hot form since the turn of the new year, regularly contributing to goals. Prior to the Everton game, he had also scored and assisted a goal against Leeds United at Elland Road in a convincing 4-0 Premier League away win.
“We have to be ready”
The last time the Lilywhites took on United, it ended in a 3-0 home defeat for Kane and Co. Varane was part of the team that was victorious at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Frenchman is sure to want a repeat of the result on Saturday as well.
Varane said that his team were prepared for the Tottenham clash at Old Trafford, saying that one needs to be ready and focussed in every moment when coming up against players like Kane. He also warned his side about not leaving much space for Antonio Conte’s men to exploit.
“Every game is a challenge and we have to be ready for this. Against this kind of player you have to be ready and focused in every moment. We can’t leave a lot of space because they are very good. We have to be ready.”
Having blanked against the Red Devils last time around, Kane will be looking to settle the score and get revenge for the previous result against United. The 28-year-old seems to have put on his scoring boots again, which augurs well for our prospects ahead of the match.
The England skipper scored two goals at the Etihad Stadium a few backs to condemn Manchester City to a 3-2 defeat, and he will be looking forward to coming away from Manchester after conquering Old Trafford as well.

A win is crucial for us against United, given both teams are aiming to secure fourth spot in the Premier League table by the end of the season to qualify for the Champions League next term. Although we have a couple of games in hand, we need to be at our best against the Red Devils to boost our chances of playing UCL football next season.
Last time around, we had Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm as we faced off against the Old Trafford outfit. This weekend, we can expect things to be much different with Antonio Conte leading us out on the pitch, expecting a resounding victory to keep up our winning run in the league.
