Transfer News: Inter Milan planning to extend contract of Tottenham Hotspur target Milan Skriniar
According to FCInter1908 via Teamtalk (h/t Football.London), Inter Milan are looking to extend the contract of experienced defender Milan Skriniar, who is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur. The Serie A club could also offer him the captaincy in order to prolong his stay at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium.
The 27-year-old has become an integral part of the backline for the Nerazzurri over the years. He has anchored the defensive setup expertly and his composure at the back has played a pivotal role in their Scudetto win last season.
The experienced defender has bagged 11 goals and four assists in 202 matches across all competitions for Inter Milan to date. But it is the Slovakian international’s defensive acumen and leadership at the back that catches one’s eyes.
The 27-year-old has already worked under Antonio Conte and it remains to be seen if their past links have any effect on potential negotiations. The Lilwyhites have had an oscillating campaign so far, to say the least.
What’s in store for Tottenham Hotspur?
An early exit from the UEFA Europa Conference League as well as a shock departure from the FA Cup at the hands of minnows Middlesbrough shows us that there is still a lot of work to be done at N-17.
Whilst Spurs have shown signs of an attacking brand of football coupled with intensity and desire, the lack of consistency in results has been a recurring issue. Except for perhaps Eric Dier, the North Londoners are devoid of experienced options who can bring a sense of stability and sturdiness at the back.
The likes of Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez have put in questionable performances at times with Cristian Romero having to deal with nagging injury issues this season. In light of such developments, Skriniar could be the ideal acquisition to help build a more solid defensive foundation at Tottenham.
His experience at the top level could also help bring a lot of steel to our defence. This is something that could help steer the club in the right direction and at 27, the player could still provide Spurs with some of his most important footballing years.

Hence, if our interest in Skriniar is real and strong, then we would certainly hope that Inter and the player do not come to an agreement over a new deal. That would certainly increase the difficulty in signing the player, if not totally killing the links altogether.
