Dimitar Berbatov believes Tottenham Hotspur should make Harry Kane the best-paid player in sporting history
In his conversation with Express, Former Premier League striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged Tottenham Hotspur to offer Harry Kane the most lucrative deal in sports history in view of his recent performances.
The 28-year-old had a relatively difficult start to life at the start of the season. The English international was at the centre of attention last summer as Manchester City came knocking on the door to secure his services. Whilst the saga continued, the deal fell through as Daniel Levy demanded a preposterous £150m for their prized asset.
It seemed as though the English striker was feeling the after-effects of the failed move but has picked up his form once again ever since the arrival of Antonio Conte at N-17. Kane has now gone on to score 20 goals and provide four assists in 38 matches across all competitions for the North Londoners in this campaign.
Not only has he been clinical in front of goal but his ability to drop into pockets of space and create chances for his fellow teammates is another glowing trait that makes his presence so valuable. His return to form could be a great sign for the Tottenham faithful and Berbatov showered the English international with a myriad of praise.
Speaking to Express, the former Manchester United and Spurs striker revealed his thoughts regarding Harry Kane. The Betfair Ambassador sang praises not only of his goal-scoring abilities but also of his passing ability and movement on the pitch.
“Well, if he signs a new contract, I hope they can make him the best-paid player in sports history because of the other performances he’s doing right now. He again is reminding everybody why he is so good on the pitch and, in my opinion, one of the best in the world at what he does.”
“Not only scoring goals, just how he moves around the pitch and how he takes the ball, how he gives it with the passing. His passing is unbelievable; he’s something between number nine and number 10.”
Does Harry Kane have a future at Tottenham?
The 28-year-old is currently in the prime years of his professional career. The English international has time and again displayed why he is regarded amongst the best in the world through his performances on the pitch.
Kane and Son Heung-Min have created a lethal attacking partnership upfront and now hold the record for the most goal combinations ever in the Premier League. This should be a viable testament as to how good the players have been in front of goal during their time at Spurs.
Despite these feats, the lack of silverware has always been an alarming issue at N-17. While the club may have gotten close on occasions, they have largely struggled to compete at the highest level in Europe as well as England in the last couple of seasons.
The staggering turnover of managers ever since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino has also been another concern for the Lilwyhites. That being said, Conte now seems to have instilled his brand of football at Spurs.
Kane seems to have largely profited from the experience of the Italian manager. Whilst that is a step in the right direction, the club may have to do better to ward off any potential suitors for Kane in the coming window.

Berbatov is of the opinion that the club should offer the English captain one of the most lucrative deals in sporting history. If that keeps him at Spurs for the time being, then fair enough.
But it is also wise to remember that his current deal expires in the summer of 2024. By the end of that calendar year, Kane would have turned 31- and offering an eye-watering wage package in his new contract should take that aspect into account as well.
