Transfer News: Arsenal join Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of Torino wing-back Wilfried Stephane Singo
According to Tuttosport via Toro News (h/t Football.London), Arsenal have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target and Torino wing-back Wilfried Singo. Mikel Arteta is thought to be interested in a backup right-back and could rival the Lilywhites for the defender’s signature.
Antonio Conte is also thought to have asked for the signing of the Ivorian international. He has bagged five goals and provided seven assists in 64 matches across all competitions for the Granata, establishing himself as an integral part of their setup.
The young full-back shows immense potential and could be a long-term asset provided that he is nurtured in the right manner. Arteta has looked forward to bringing young exciting talent to the Emirates ever since becoming their manager and the Ivorian would only extend that list if he were to make the switch to the Gunners.
Can Tottenham pull one over their bitter rivals?
The Lilywhites have largely struggled to maintain any sort of consistency in the last few seasons. The Gunners, on the other hand, seem to have gotten their act together under their Spanish manager.
The 39-year-old has gradually made Arsenal into a solid team, especially in possession, and has largely put his faith in young players which is paying dividends as they sit fourth in the Premier League table as of now.
On the other hand, Spurs have largely struggled to get their act together which was made evident by their shock exits from the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. But to change the tide, we need to add quality and depth to this team, especially in the backline.
Conte prefers to play with a three-man defensive line which puts more of the creative onus on wing-backs. Emerson Royal has largely struggled to make an impact at right-back ever since making the move from Barcelona.
Matt Doherty has put on some impressive displays in recent fixtures. Whilst the Tottenham faithful would be hoping that the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player can continue this run of form, the club could do well to add suitable reinforcements down the right flank and find a potential long-term replacement for either of the two defenders.
This would give the Italian manager the opportunity to have more viable options in the position. At 21, Singo could still have some of his best footballing years ahead of him and could provide an extended attacking threat down the right for a substantial amount of time.
Without getting our hopes too high, the club must first fend off interest from our North London rivals. It would be an even sweeter deal should we be able to hijack this deal from under the noses of Arsenal.

That being said, the Gunners are currently in a good position to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. This could possibly be a telling factor and the Lilywhites will have to start putting up impressive performances on a more consistent basis if they want to lure young talents like Singo.
