Gary Neville blasts Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min as Tottenham Hotspur lose to Manchester United
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), former Manchester United player Gary Neville berated Tottenham Hotspur forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min for their disappointing performance against Manchester United.
The Lilwyhites put up an impressive performance but were punished for their lack of cutting edge in front of the goal. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brilliant hat-trick to down the North Londoners on the day in what was a stellar showdown.
The English striker managed to get on the scoreboard after converting his penalty in the 35th minute but largely struggled to have any substantial impact from open play. The Korean international was also struggling on the night at Old Trafford.
It seemed as though Spurs could still come away with something from the match after a Harry Maguire own goal in the 75th minute but the Portuguese superstar wasn’t in the mood to accept a loss for his team.
In a conversation on Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), Neville highlighted the poor performances of Kane and Son. He also shed light on how Conte would be expecting more from his players.
“It’s worth mentioning the two best players. Son was always on his backside and Kane gave the ball away more than I’d ever seen. About five, six times in that last 20 minutes.”
“So they were really poor. When they got back to 2-2 they should’ve won Spurs that game but they were poor. They had their worst period of the game. Conte will be saying I want more from you.”
What lies ahead for the Tottenham Hotspur duo?
The 29-year-old Korean international was having a tough time as he kept slipping on the pitch at crucial moments. The English captain was also struggling to put the ball in the back of the net against the Red Devils.
Spurs were riding high after recording back-to-back Premier League victories against Leeds United and Everton. The loss against the Mancunian club could be a reality check in terms of what needs to be done from here on.
Despite the result, the Lilwyhites did play an attacking possession-based game which could be taken as a positive. The attackers also had pretty decent chances throughout the game but failed to score as much as they would have liked. We all know the duo’s lethality in front of goal so we can put this down as an off day for them.
Fortunes can change easily in football and it brings a certain pressure along with it. Kane and Son have been pivotal parts of this Tottenham attack for several years now. They have the record for the most goal combinations in the Premier League at the moment.
The duo possesses the capabilities to bounce back from this setback and would already be looking forward to their next match. The club faithful would be hoping that the Korean and English international can put in better performances in the matches to come.

This would be an important prerequisite should the Lilwyhites have any hope of securing a top-four finish and making it to the UEFA Champions League next season. As for Neville, it is better if he focuses on his club’s attackers misfiring.
Before his hat-trick, Ronaldo suffered a dim spell for the Red Devils while his teammates up front aren’t really making a case for their names to be in the same conversation as someone like Kane and Son.
