Tottenham Hotspur handed Gleison Bremer boost as Torino line up move for replacement

According to the Italian news outlet Pianeta Milan (h/t Sussex World), Tottenham Hotspur have received a boost in their pursuit to sign Gleison Bremer as Torino are plotting to find a suitable replacement. He has played a key role in helping his side to get into the top half of the Serie A table this season which is a major achievement for their current standards.

Tottenham have already identified Bremer as a transfer target as they look to boost their defensive ranks in the future. Now it seems that their chances of finalising a move have increased as the Italian side are looking to bring in an adequate replacement for the defender.

The Serie club has currently lined up a plan to secure the signature of AC Milan ace Mattia Caldara ahead of the summer transfer window. Moreover, the former is likely to part ways with Bremer if they do receive a bid in the region of £21million.

Get on it!

This update comes as welcome news for any team interested in the 24-year-old Brazilian. After all, since Torino are looking for replacements and are open to selling Bremer, we should try to take advantage of the situation and agree to a deal before any more obstacles come our way.

The Brazilian defender’s current contract will expire only in the 2023-24 season. As such, the current price tag seems sensible, considering how he also has performed in Italy. He could prove to be a useful addition to our backline, which has struggled to keep out goals in the past few weeks.

Antonio Conte’s teams are known for being a solid defensive unit, and we have not looked like that since he took over the role this term. It is not the boss’ fault either as he is yet to sign a single player in that position himself.

Joe Rodon does not look like he is in the ex-Inter Milan boss’ plans as the Welshman continues to struggle for game time. Japhet Tanganga has struggled with recovery and is still out with an injury. Moreover, he has not been at his best when given chances, and Davinson Sanchez hasn’t really won over extensive plaudits with his recent performances as well.

While Ben Davies has fared well in the left-hand side of the centre-back pairing, it’s not like we can continue to depend on him in the long term. After all, it may well be wiser to use someone who is naturally suited to that position.

The need for a centre-back signing is pretty much highlighted at this point after taking all these into consideration. Whether that will be Bremer or not remains to be seen as we near the summer transfer window.

One can only wonder how much Conte would have liked the solid and sturdy pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld when the Belgian duo was in their prime at N17. But both of them have departed, and our focus should be to find long-term replacements for them because a team’s centre-backs are crucial to their success.
