Tottenham Hotspur and Oliver Skipp close to reaching an agreement over a contract extension

According to Alasdair Gold, the club correspondent of Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur and Oliver Skipp are close to reaching an agreement over a contract extension after his impressive spell at N17 so far. He has been a key presence under Antonio Conte, and his renewal would be more deserved considering how well he has performed.

Negotiations over a new contract are currently ongoing, and the 21-year-old is set to significantly increase his salary package once this deal is penned. Tying down a player of Skipp’s potential will certainly protect our long term interests.

This update would no doubt be a good piece of news to all the supporters regarding the Englishman. After all, he has been out injured for two months now, having suffered protracted issues with his pubic symphysis.

Well deserved!

The 21-year-old has been excellent for us this campaign, having returned from a loan spell at Norwich City last summer. That has also been the case under Antonio Conte, with the boss also helping the central midfielder to reach even newer heights during their short time together.

Not to mention, the Tottenham ace’s absence has certainly been felt in the past two months, and the frustration has been shared by the Italian manager as well. The player himself would have felt displeasure about his current plight, but this contract update would no doubt be a boost amidst the recent shortcomings.

The Premier League midfielder still has a long way left in his career, and there is room for growth as well. That was well highlighted when the former Inter Milan boss assisted him to develop his attacking qualities after taking over the managerial role from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Skipp has been a dynamic presence in midfield while supporting the defence in the process. However, his growth in the attacking department would go a long way in helping us boost our quality in the midfield. Who knows, with sufficient improvements, he could be the “Marcelo Brozovic” for the Spurs boss and maybe even better the Inter midfielder.

For that to happen, though, we need to get him back to full fitness at the earliest, especially as our depth in midfield is questionable. Let’s hope that the medical department can help us in this regard and boost our prospects of achieving the only objective left for us this season- qualification for the 2022-23 campaign’s UEFA Champions League.
