Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov showers praise on Harry Kane
In conversation with the Daily Star, Dimitar Berbatov spoke highly of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. The Manchester United legend compared him to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
The 28-year-old striker had a slow start to the season under Nuno Espirito Santo as he struggled to find the back of the net. The English captain has since put all of those troubles behind him and is starting to find his feet once again.
Kane has now scored 22 goals and provided four assists in 40 matches across all competitions for the Lilywhites this campaign. The English international also broke the Premier League record for the most away goals when he got on the scoresheet against Brighton & Hove Albion in their latest fixture.
He overtook Wayne Rooney to achieve this feat. The 28-year-old now has 95 away goals in the PL to his name, taking a mere 139 appearances to get his hands on this record. Berbatov seems to be impressed not only with the quality of his attack but also his range of passing.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the Betfair ambassador lavished the English striker with praise. He also shed light on how Kane has great passing abilities akin to that of De Bruyne.
“For quite some time, he has been one of the greats in the Premier League. The [Man] City game proved that, and not just because he scores goals! Honestly, I look at strikers a bit differently, his overall movement around the pitch, and how he gets the ball. When he has the ball, there is a calmness around the pitch. And when he passes the ball, oh my god, it’s like I’m watching Kevin De Bruyne playing for Spurs. He’s so good at scoring goals and playing killer passes – so he’s in between a No.9 and No.10.”
Harry all the way
Antonio Conte has been the catalyst of change for the North Londoners in this campaign. He has helped the club pivot in a more attacking direction with the English captain being the focal point of their attacking prominence in recent fixtures.
His ability to drop into deeper positions and get into pockets of space also helps his fellow teammates to get into more promising positions. His hold-up play and passing in the final third means that he is much more than just the summation of all his stats which aren’t too shabby after all.
This is not the first time that the former Bulgarian professional has waxed lyrical about Harry Kane. In another interview with the Express, Berbatov urged the Lilwyhites to make him the best-paid sportsperson in history.
The English international has stepped up to the plate and is delivering on a consistent level once again. The club seems to be heading in the right direction under the tutelage of the Italian manager but there is still a lot of work to be done at Hotspur Way.
The club has had an oscillating run of results in recent memory. They have shown great drive going forward but have been picked apart by the opposition on instances owing to the defensive frailties.
Kane was the subject of a crazy transfer saga last season. Manchester City came knocking on the door but wasn’t able to pull off a deal. The club will be hoping that the English star can see out his long-term future at the club.

Whilst that sounds like a dream come true, the club will have to put in more consistent performances and fight for European football in the seasons to come. Failure to achieve this could tempt the English captain to look for greener pastures elsewhere.
