Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder takes a cheeky dig at Tottenham Hotspur after the loss against Chelsea
According to Football.London, Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder suggested what makes Chelsea a better team than Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues defeated Middlesbrough in the FA Cup Quarter-Final courtesy of goals from Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech. However, the road to the quarter-final has been one to remember for the Boro fans.
They earned a hard-fought victory against Manchester United in the fourth round and gave a courageous performance in the 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the fifth round, which became a highlight of their path to the last 8.
In a recent interview, Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder pinpointed the difference between the mentality between Chelsea and Tottenham. He even applauded the hunger for a win from the Chelsea players after they bested them on the night.
“We played a full hit Man United, a full hit Tottenham and a full hit Chelsea. We hung in there with United and beat them on penalties. We fully deserved it versus Tottenham, and we couldn’t find the right defensive moments tonight. Chelsea just find a way.”
“It is the mentality of the group led by an incredible manager. They have stability with Thomas coming in, and the other two clubs maybe don’t have that.”
Even though we lost against Middlesbrough in the fifth round, it was far from a humiliating defeat as we showcased equal determination and effort in that game. We had six shots on target, two more than the opponent, and 49.2% total possession in that game.
Only one goal from Josh Coburn in the 107 minutes of the game became the decider. But if the offside decisions went in our favour, the results could have been very different. Nevertheless, the fact that Boro play in the Championship was always going to make any result apart from a win, an embarrassment for us.
There is no doubt Chelsea fought hard and took a favourable result out of the game. But our team also fared heroically against Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough. Nevertheless, he did point out a few things that really show the gap between the two teams.

Chelsea do look a more stable side than us right now, at least on the pitch. Their system seems solid and the players look like they know what they are doing. Spurs, on the other hand, are prone to inconsistency.
It almost seems like Conte is yet to bring in the players he really wants to in order to properly embed his system at the club. But then again, this is his first season here and we need to give him some more time before we start expecting big things.
