Antonio Conte delivers verdict on Harry Kane and his playmaking display vs West Ham United
Antonio Conte has provided his thoughts on Harry Kane and his excellent playmaking performance in their 3-1 win against West Ham United. The centre-forward was involved in all three goals for his side on the night as they further strengthened their prospects of a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
Kane has evolved his game overall over the last year or so after developing his creative skills as an attacker. That saw him win the PL Playmaker Award for having the highest number of assists last season. That being said, he still had room for growth as there were times when he dropped deep to receive the ball when it was not needed. That has changed since then, and yesterday’s display was one such example.
Speaking in the post-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Conte has lauded the England skipper for being excellent in scoring goals as well as assisting teammates. He has also added that the striker gives them different options to work with as he plays as a centre-forward while also being a creative outlet.
“Yeah, but he is brilliant in both phases when he has to score and also when he makes an assist. He is two players in one because he can be a number 10 or he can be a number nine and it doesn’t change.”
“It was a pity because today he deserved to score another goal and he had the chances to score his goals and improve his record and to give us more calm to finish the game before. Instead, we waited to score the third goal only 10 minutes from the end.”
What a display!
The 28-year-old’s two assists against the Hammers saw him increase his assists tally to six this season from 41 matches across all competitions, with five of them coming in the Premier League. He also has scored 22 times this term, showcasing how impactful he is, just like the Italian boss has mentioned.
What’s more, the Premier League attacker seems to have finally gained an understanding of when he needs to get involved in the build-up and when he needs to be on the receiving end of passes. That would be a great boost for us moving forward in our attempt to achieve Champions League qualification for the next season.
The Spurs ace has overcome his struggles at the start of this campaign, having been rejuvenated by the former Inter Milan coach. Moreover, he has arguably become a better player overall as well in the process. That is great news for us in our pursuit to put an end to this goal drought with the help of the 52-year-old manager.

The Tottenham forward needs to maintain this form or even better it as we near the crucial stages of this season. The win saw us move up to fifth in the league table with 51 points from 29 matches. Arsenal are in fourth place at this moment with 54 points while having a game in hand. That being said, the North London derby is yet to be played, and that would be a great opportunity to reduce the gap further to put pressure on them.
