Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri unsure about the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Paulo Dybala

Massimiliano Allegri has admitted that he is unsure about the future of Tottenham Hotspur target Paulo Dybala at Juventus beyond the 2022 summer transfer window. The latter is close to leaving the Turin giants at the end of this season once his current deal expires.

Dybala has less than six months left in his current deal at Allianz Stadium, and a renewal does not appear to be on the cards. As such, he can legally reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs before moving elsewhere at the end of the season. Manchester United have been credited with an interest alongside Tottenham as they look to add him to their squad.

Speaking in an interview with DAZN (h/t The Sun), Allegri has revealed that he has no idea what lies in store for the Argentine forward in the summer transfer window. Interestingly enough, the coach added that all the contract matters would be left to the board, further casting doubts on the attacker’s future with the Bianconeri.

“I don’t know if he will be a Juventus player or not, that is a matter for the club. We often talk with the club, it’s not just Paulo whose contract is running down, but also [Federico] Bernardeschi, [Mattia] De Sciglio, [Mattia] Perin and [Juan] Cuadrado. I can evaluate players, but when it comes to contracts, what the players want, these are other elements.”

Boost for Spurs?

This update could potentially indicate what is to come regarding the 28-year-old’s future past this campaign. It seems that we could really have a chance at bringing him to the club after failing to do so in the past. We were close to finalising a £65million move for him in 2019, but the Bianconeri eventually decided to keep hold of him.

What’s more, we even had reached an agreement with the Serie A superstar himself, but it all ended up in vain. Perhaps, our previous connections could help us land him this summer ahead of Man United, who are in the transfer race as well.

The Argentinian has struggled with injuries this term, but he has still continued to perform at a high level even with the lack of consistent game time. He has done well with 13 goals and six assists to his name from 29 appearances across all competitions. An impressive number, despite Juventuus’s struggles this season.

One could question whether we need to sign the Juve ace at all with Dejan Kulusevski having joined the North London side in January. Kulusevski has also done well during that time, but that does not mean we should pass the chance to bring in Dybala. After all, he would be available for free if there is no change in the current stance, and he could arguably be an upgrade over Lucas Moura as well.

Now let’s wait and see whether the board would pursue Dybala on a free transfer or not in the summer transfer window. It would ultimately depend on what Antonio Conte thinks of him and whether a move for the forward is a priority or not when there are areas like midfield that need to be addressed.
