Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola prefers Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane over Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland
According to Italian journalist Fabio Gatto via Football Transfer Tavern (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola prefers to sign Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane over Borussia Dortmund ace Erling Haaland due to his team’s style of play. This news would be concerning, to say the least, for Antonio Conte’s side following the summer saga that we went through last summer.
Man City are very much still interested in securing Kane’s signature and could return for him in the summer. They had targeted him heavily the previous summer, but a move did not come to fruition.
Guardiola does not believe Haaland, whom the Citizens have shown an interest in as well, would suit his system. Transfer specialist Gatto even goes on to claim that Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix is also preferred over the Dortmund star, with the England captain being at the top of the wish list.
Bad news for Spurs?
Those who have closely followed Pep would know that he is keen on maintaining his possession style of football. As such, this update could be true after all, as Kane and Felix are suitable to his tactics while Haaland sways more towards a counter-attacking sort of gameplay.
As such, the board and Conte must clear things out with Kane to get his view on the matter. That being said, we are confident that the striker would be convinced by the project we are building under the former Chelsea manager.
The North London side have certainly improved a lot under the Italian coach, plus they have also been arguably at their best since Mauricio Pochettino’s days. That is the case despite the setbacks that we have suffered and the depleted squad that Conte has to deal with for now.
Kane seems to be happy with how things have been going on at N17 after looking at his body language when he is on the pitch. After all, there is a sharp contrast compared to how he was under Nuno Espirito Santo following the failed summer move to Etihad Stadium.

Perhaps, that could indicate that the 28-year-old is content with the team. We could use that to convince the attacker that he should stay and continue to play a part moving forward. After all, we certainly can challenge for silverware under a world-class manager like Conte. Our chances are increased even further if Kane decides to stay put and contribute to the cause.
It will be interesting to see how this situation pans out in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window. While Tottenham could be in for yet another transfer saga, hopefully it will once again work out in our favour.
