Tottenham Hotspur dealt transfer blow as Franck Kessie Barcelona completes
According to transfer specialist Gianluca di Marzio via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow as Franck Kessie has completed his medical with Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window. The midfielder has been highly sought-after for quite a while and is set to leave AC Milan at the end of the season.
Kessie is in the final year of his current contract and is legally able to reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs. It seems that Barca have taken advantage of the situation since the central midfielder has completed his medical with the La Liga club. Moreover, he is set to accept a salary package that would earn him around £105k-a-week in wages.
Supposedly, the medical took place in Lugano after both parties reached a verbal agreement several days ago. Moreover, it is also claimed that the official contracts will be signed shortly in the coming weeks. This update would undoubtedly be a blow for Spurs, who were interested in signing the 25-year-old.
Damning update for Spurs!
This piece of information would no doubt be terrible for the North London side’s future prospects as they are looking to build a strong project under Antonio Conte. Losing out on someone like Kessie is a really difficult pill to swallow, considering how we are desperate for midfield additions.
Kessie has been ever-present in the Milan side and has played a key role in their success so far as they are the Serie A leaders at this moment. His quality was further highlighted by the number of clubs interested in securing his services, namely Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Aston Villa.
Our midfield has been an area that needs to be bolstered in the summer transfer window. After all, we only have four options right now, with Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur forming the quartet. Skipp has also been out injured for quite some time, leaving us dangerously close to a dire situation.

It is baffling to see such poor squad management in the first place, especially if the board have plans to back Conte in building towards a better future. Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso could still return from their respective loan spells, but it is debatable if they are in Conte’s plans.
It would be best if Tottenham focuses their attention elsewhere and find another target who could do the job that the Italian boss demands from our midfield. Kessie looks as good as gone and there is little reason for us to flog a dead horse.
