Douglas Luiz highly unlikely to renew Aston Villa contract as Tottenham Hotspur keep tabs
According to BirminghamLive, Douglas Luiz is seemingly highly unlikely to renew his contract with Aston Villa as Tottenham Hotspur keep tabs on his situation. This update could potentially give the latter the incentive to make their case in the summer transfer window.
Luiz will see his current contract with Villa expire in the summer of 2023. That has created uncertainty surrounding his future at his current club, which is heightened even further as he is looking likely not to sign an extension in the coming months. As such, his side could be forced to sell him so as not to lose him on a free transfer after the next season.
The Brazilian was subjected to interest in the January transfer window, with the Lions also rejecting several offers for the midfielder. Tottenham are not the only interested party at this moment, as Arsenal and Newcastle United are also weighing up their options to push ahead for a move in the future.
Douglas Luiz to Spurs?
The 23-year-old is one of the rising stars in the Premier League at this moment and is yet to fully reach his potential. Despite that, he has continued to be a regular for his side even with the contract uncertainty. Signing him would be a great prospect for any team, considering the quality he offers right now.
The Premier League ace has made 25 appearances in the league this season while having a goal alongside three assists in those matches. The defensive midfielder also helped his team to eight clean sheets in the process and is a strong and dynamic presence in the attack as well in the defence.
We could have a real opportunity in our hands to take advantage of the Villa midfielder’s current situation this summer. If he enters the final year of his contract, the North London side should pressure his club to give in to our proposals so as not to lose him on a free transfer in the future.

Things definitely would not be easy with the Gunners and Newcastle rivalling us for the Brazil international. After all, Mikel Arteta’s side could use additions in their ranks as they are also building a long term project like us. As for the Magpies, we have seen how they instantly turned things around following the impressive dealings in the winter transfer window.
Spurs must beat them to secure Luiz’s signature at the end of this campaign. We do need midfield reinforcements, considering how light we are in terms of our options. Hence, we are hopeful that the board can back Antonio Conte by bringing in quality reinforcement as we look to build towards a better future.
