Cody Gakpo and Florian Grillitsch among four summer targets Antonio Conte wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign
According to The Mirror [Print Edition] (h/t The Express), Cody Gakpo and Florian Grillitsch are among the four targets that Antonio Conte wants Tottenham Hotspur to sign in the summer transfer window. The English club is looking to invest heavily after this season to back their man in charge to get them out of their plight.
Conte has already identified four areas within the squad that need to be bolstered at the end of this term. Tottenham’s defence is one of the positions as the boss wants to bring in a centre-back and a right-wingback to strengthen their backline this summer. He is also looking to reinforce the midfield and the attack with one signing each in the summer.
Franck Kessie was one of the midfield targets for Spurs before he reached an agreement with Barcelona over a move. As such, Grillitsch has been shortlisted as a potential option, and he could be one of the summer arrivals. As for Gakpo, he is one of the preferred targets as the club plans to back Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min with more quality options.
Summer overhaul for Spurs?
The board must back the Italian coach and give him what he wants in the summer transfer window. There are no other options for the management if they have ambitions to finally win trophies after a long period of drought. Conte can certainly do that, as he has proven at his previous clubs but would need appropriate support from the hierarchy.
We are hopeful that Daniel Levy will do just that after this season. After all, the 52-year-old manager has certainly not put forward ridiculous demands considering the current state of the squad. Centre-back, for example, is an area that needs to be strengthened, looking at how Conte uses a three at the back system.
The likes of Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez can be moved out to bring in quality additions. As for the right-wingback role, it is pretty clear how desperate we are for reinforcements in that position. Emerson Royal has failed to showcase even a glimpse of his quality going forward, raising the need for signings.
Matt Doherty has done well in recent times, but he alone would not be enough in a long season. Our midfielder is dangerously close to being inadequate due to the lack of enough choice for Conte. Kessie would have been helpful, but it seems that we have lost out on him. Grillitsch is a fine replacement and would definitely boost our ranks should we sign him.

Gakpo has been sensational this season and would cost us transfer fees in the region of £35million. That’s not all, as Arsenal and Bayern Munich would rival us in the transfer race for his services. It is not surprising to see that happen, as he has scored 16 goals alongside 15 assists this term from 27 games in all competitions.
Only time will tell whether the board can meet Conte’s demands in the summer transfer window or not. We hope that is the case as fulfilling them would be crucial to our success in the next campaign.
