Spurs striker Harry Kane remains coy on his long-term Tottenham Hotspur future
Speaking ahead of the England national team’s friendlies, as quoted by the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Kane remained coy on his long-term future at the club when quizzed about his situation beyond the summer.
The striker is currently on national duty with the Three Lions, who are preparing to face off against Switzerland and the Ivory Coast in a couple of friendly games during the international break that is in effect at the moment.
Kane, when asked about what his plans for the future ahead of the new campaign were, chose to ignore the question altogether and said that his main focus presently was finishing the current season.
“Obviously my main focus is just finishing this season first and foremost.”
The England skipper has been in fine form recently, finding the back of the net regularly after a poor start to the campaign, where he looked out of sorts and was unable to impose himself in games. He now has 22 goals in 41 games across all competitions for the Lilywhites this term.
“I can’t control”
Last summer saw the Spurs talisman seek a move to Manchester City amid strong interest from the club, but the switch broke down. Given the events that happened last year, Kane’s future in north London has been the subject of much speculation.
The 28-year-old said his current focus was with Tottenham and the fight for a top-four place in the Premier League but also hinted that he cannot control what happens in the future, refusing to overtly commit to his side beyond the summer.
“We’re still in competition for the top four. I can’t control what will happen in the future. It’s a big year for everyone, not just me. It’s about controlling what I can control and doing what I can on the pitch.”
After a slow start to the season given the transfer hype that surrounded him, Kane has gotten back to his best in 2022 under manager Antonio Conte, who the club brought in late last year to guide the side back to the top.
The Italian has seemingly steadied the ship in recent weeks, with the team picking up back-to-back wins and climbing up the table in an effort to claim fourth place in the league table, fighting off Arsenal and Manchester United for the same.
Kane’s importance to this Tottenham side is massive and crucial, given how reliant the team is on his goals and assists in games. He has been the club’s standout player in recent years, proving to be a world-class goalscorer, even for his country. But if he is frustrated this season, it is understandable.
There is no chance for us to win a major trophy for the 14th campaign running and Kane, who will be 29 this July, does not really have all the time in the world to fill up his trophy cabinet. Spurs fans will be desperate for the talisman to stay and continue his career at N17.
